324: The explorer Erad Vaelith reaches the coast, maps part of the region, & returns to the Patrian city of Civitas Solis. His expedition is the first to return alive.
417: The first permanent settlement in the region is established at Dunum by an expedition under Areen Lomond, in what is now the Union of Lecath.
450-486: Other major settlements are founded along the coast, including in what is now Brond, Kesten, Arnum, & New Abria.
492: The city of Dunum & two neighboring settlements, though still considered a colony province by Patria, declare their independence.
501: The city of Dunum, now renamed Areen, is formalized as the capital of Lecath. The royal line of Maroden is founded under King Andres Maroden I, & still sits on the throne of Lecath to this day.
512-520: Following Lecath’s lead, other colony provinces declare independence: Brond, Xish (occupying territory that new belongs to Lecath & Arnum), Bellicose Arnum, & the Ohr Islands (occupying several major islands, including Grey Island, Autumn Isle, & Oileán Mór).
533-549: Patria (now the Imperium Magna Patria) declares the First War of Pacification, attempting to reunify the independent colonies. General Titus Loreius Osterianus leads three legions at first, but at the height of the war 17 legions are engaged with a rag-tag confederacy of defenders. In the course of this war, Xish & Ohr Islands are wiped out.
549: At the end of the First War of Pacification, Lecath & Brond are returned to ‘colony province’ status. Bellicose Arnum is utterly sacked, & reformed as the colony province of Arnum-and-Abria under a strict code of laws enforcing pacifism.
629-648: After eighty years of building political tension & renewed stirrings of independence, the Second War of Pacification happens. Magna Patria is again successful, but it’s a pyrrhic victory; the Patrian senate considers the cost of the war to far outweigh the benefits of maintaining control over the colony provinces.
630: Although the king of Arnum-and-Abria remains neutral in the war due to the pacifism code, the constabulary & defense forces stage a military coup. In the aftermath, the nation self-subdivides into Arnum & New Abria. Arnum enters the war lead by General Zamira Karstas, while New Abria continues to remain neutral under Queen Syra Athanoch II.
645: Brond undergoes a coup of its own, when the Church of Brond seizes power & installs a theocratic government & renames the nation Holy Brond. First Patriach Victor Kusya organizes his church in a hierarchy much like the political ranks of Magna Patria.
647: During the chaos of the Second War of Pacification, a new nation calling itself the Circle of Kesten ‘appears’ (for lack of a better word). In the span of approximately six months, a council of mages overseen by Archmage Vorkalth Creighton lays claim to territories formerly belonging to Holy Brond & Lecath. They enter the war against Magna Patria less than two months before hostilities cease.
649: With the war now over, the provisional military government (junta) of Arnum now has time to formalize itself. General Karstas signs a constitution & it is ratified by her colonels; despite the junta remaining in control, the nation is now named “The Peaceful Brotherhood of Arnum”. They declare their powerful navy & army as a peacekeeping force in the region.
551: Andres Maroden II, King of Lecath, signs the charter for the Worshipful Guild of Cordwainers. The guild remains in operation to this day, the oldest corporation in the region, though now it is known as the King’s Company. Adrienne Morgan is the first Governor of the guild.
667: The Nusquam Charter is signed by Triumvir Aulus Proculus Victricius & representatives of the Patrian senate, granting independence to the named nations: Holy Brond, the Circle of Kesten, Lecath, & Arnum.
670: Recovered from the Second War of Pacification & now recognized as independent nations, Holy Brond & Lecath now turn their attention on the Circle of Kesten. Conflict begins to brew when the elder nations demand the return of their territories, but Magna Patria sends occupying legions to force them to stand down. Before a Third War of Pacification can break out, Holy Brond & Lecath recant & sign a treaty formally granting Kesten the territories.
688: In Lecath, a coalition of guilds push for a series of government reforms, spearheaded by the Worshipful Guild of Cordwainers. At their behest, Queen Ellena Maroden enacts a number of their requested reforms. The nation is renamed the Union of Lecath.
723-790: The Patrian Triumvirs Axia Sulina & Silo Vulso put on a major initiative to settle the island of Clypeus as a colony, named Diveon. Triumvir Appius Constantius dissents.
731: A poorly understood event known as the Reform of New Abria occurs. The nation’s monarchy had been faltering for a century since the coup & schism of Arnum a century prior, until the sitting King Twyford Haden died leaving no heir. Internal conflict builds, initially political but soon erupting in violence. The Peaceful Brotherhood of Arnum enforces peace talks; each of the four main factions sends a single representative into the King’s Council Chamber—Quess Dalmore, Milos Daava, Kristov Ilyich, & Ágastas Cnáimhsí—and the doors are sealed behind them. 37 hours later the doors are unsealed. Quess Dalmore, Kristov Ilyich, & Ágastas Cnáimhsí, & a fourth, unidentified man walk out, while Milos Daava is never seen again. The three remaining representatives issue a ‘declaration of adhocracy’, & state that the throne will remain empty. This event remains the subject of intense speculation & conspiracy theory to this day.
740: The League of Vesh is founded when Trader Gallio Aelius Vala & Tycoon Gehavul Slane form a combine of wealthy merchants & purchase three cities from their former nations: two on the mainland coast, & one on Clypeus.
763: Erad Gudbaan, descendant of Erad Vaelith & a famed explorer in his own right, disappears while on a voyage to the northeast, past Clypeus.
790: With guidance from Triumvirs Appius Constantius & Pollia Petreia, the Patrian senate grant Diveon full autonomy as an ‘independent province’. Triumvir Titus Auspex dissents.
825-832: War breaks out between Holy Brond & New Abria. Patriarch Bruster callis it “The War of Truth”, while Trader Mertor Tansen calls it “The War of False Promises”. The casus belli is ‘a sealed matter’. One by one, other nations in the region are dragged into the conflict. Magna Patria pointedly refuses to get involved. The war escalates, but ends quickly when Admiral Maybelle Stanton declares the Peaceful Brotherhood of Arnum will enter the war on Abria’s side, & Brond quickly sues for peace.
